My Heritage - West Cork
Being Irish is one thing, but to be a Munsterman and a Corkman make it even better. You may have noticed, from the fact that I've devoted a whole page to this! that my Cork heritage is something I value dearly and something I enjoy sharing with others.
I come from a wonderful farming family outside the village of Drimoleague in the heart of beautiful West, pronounced locally as (Weshht) Cork.
West Cork is one of the most scenic parts of Ireland and is situated right at the very South and West of Ireland. If you like food and scenery, then there truly is no better place to visit than here. Many award winning foods are made here including; Glenilen Farm, Durrhus Cheese, Gubben Smokehouse and of course Clonakilty Blackpudding.
After you've stuffed yourself with all this food there is no better place to work it all off then on one of the many scenic walkways that line this part of the country. Where to begin! Well one of the best spots are the Drimoleague Heritage Walkways and the Sheeps head Way. Regardless of whether you are fit or not there is something for everyone with walks ranging from; peaceful river walks to mountain hikes. More information can be found on their website links below.

When you are "bate" (tired) after all the walking and looking for a place to stay, a unique enjoyable experience is the "Pod Pairc". These Pods are cozy, individual wooden cabins which overlook the Ilen river and the surrounding valley. The Pod Pairc is run by an enterprising farmer, David, who knows the surrounding area like the back of his hand. He will be able to guide you in making the most out of your trip and will make sure that you're stay here is a memorable one.

And this is not all, for more food and scenery head to Skibbereen, Bantry, Baltimore and Glengarrif where the food is amazing and where incredible mountain, forest and sea walks abound. I could write a pile more on what there is to do here but that would take me the rest of the day but trust me when you've been to West Cork, your experience will always live long in the memory. Enjoy!
